Mission Statement:

The Building Department’s primary objective is to preserve the quality of life and economic development for the Residents and Visitors to the Town of Wellfleet by ensuring that buildings where we live, learn, dine, sleep, shop and work are safeguarded.  This is achieved through the enforcement and review of the Massachusetts Building, Electrical, Plumbing and Gas Codes and the Town of Wellfleet Zoning Bylaws.

The Department’s goal is to strive for excellence and to elevate the public’s trust through the sharing of information and education on the importance of building and zoning code compliance.

Inspector’s Hours

Plumbing Inspector: Tuesday and Thursday 8:30am – 9:30am ONLY

Electrical Inspector: Tuesday and Thursday 9:30am – 11:00am ONLY

NEWS

Due to staffing shortages, the Building, Health, and Conservation Department will be changing their hours beginning on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, to allow staff to conduct uninterrupted administrative work.  The department is experiencing challenges with the result from staffing changes. In order to keep the workflow moving, the Administration has decided to allow for two afternoons per week when the office will be closed to the public so that staff can quietly process permits, and other related administrative tasks.

The new hours are as follows:

Monday:             8AM – 12PM/1PM – 4PM

Tuesday:             8:AM – 12PM

Wednesday:       8AM – 12PM/1PM – 4PM

Thursday:           8:AM – 12PM

Friday:                 8AM – 12PM/1PM – 4PM

Short term Rental Inspections 

The building Inspector Justin Post will be conducting inspections on Tuesday's and Thursday's from 1:00PM - 4:00PM Please call the building department with any questions.
