Minutes of Meeting of May 11, 2016

Senior Center, Duck Pond Room, 7:00 p.m.

Present:  Ken Granlund Jr., Chair; Moe Barocas, John Cumbler, Janet Drohan, and Mary Rogers, Committee Secretary

Chair Ken Granlund called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  The meeting was tape-recorded.

The Board welcomed new member John Cumbler.

Stable Permit Renewal for 45 Peace Valley Rd.

Because the applicant was not present, the Board decided to postpone the request for another meeting. 

Minutes of March 9, 2016 and April 20, 2016

Ken Granlund moved to approve the minutes of March 9, 2016 and April 20, 2016.  Janet Drohan seconded, and the motion carried 2-0-1.

Public Hearing for Regulation Change in Transfer Station Commercial Fees

Ken Granlund recused himself from deliberations.

Janet Drohan opened the public hearing at 7:03 p.m. and read the notice for the hearing that had been advertised for two consecutive weeks in the newspaper.  The Board discussed raising the Commercial Refuse fees. Town Administrator Harry Terkanian had indicated that he recommended an increase.  DPW Director Mark Vincent had suggested an increase to $125 per ton.  Janet Drohan did not support changing the fee to $125 since the earlier Board of Health vote had been for $120 per ton.  

Janet Drohan closed the public hearing at 7:20 p.m.

Moe Barocas moved to approve the amendment to the Local Board of Health Regulations, Section 8000: Fee Schedule (Commercial Refuse Fee), raising the rate from $80 per ton fee for waste not in Pay-As-You-Throw bags to $120 per ton.  Janet Drohan seconded, and the motion carried 3-0.

Ken Granlund returned to the table.

Licenses

Board members approved and signed licenses from the file.

Correspondence

The Board reviewed items in the Correspondence File.

Adjournment

Moe Barocas moved to adjourn.  John Cumbler seconded, and the motion carried 3-0.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
