ROAD CLOSURE NOTIFICATION

Location: Griffin Island / Great Island / Chequessett Neck Road Bridge

• This notice is to inform the public of an upcoming road closure the week of July 13, 2026, that are required to removed temporary bridge components at the active construction of the Chequessett Beck Road Bridge. This closure will result in no vehicular traffic being able to access on or off Griffen Island during the discrete time periods indicated below.
• An additional closure will be required for one day the week of August 10, 2026, to complete the work. An additional notification will be issued in advance to specify the exact date and time of that closure. 
• Police & Fire Details are scheduled to be onsite during these times, and an Incident Action Plan has been developed for this closure should the need arise for emergency response on Griffin or Great Island. 

Sequence & Schedule 

Date of Closures:   Tuesday July 14, 2026, & Wednesday July 15, 2026 

• Rain Date if needed Thursday July 16, 2026.

Estimated Time of Closure: Closure to start at 7:00AM each dat and last 4-8 Hours each day.

Sequence:   MIG construction will mobilize a crane onto the new bridge at 7:00AM to remove the temporary bridge sections. Once each section is removed the a will move off the new bridge allowing traffic to resume that day. All effort will be made to perform this work as quickly and safely as possible to limit impacts to the public and those residents of Griffen Island.

Advisory:   The public is advised that any vehicle that is on Griffen Island at the time the closure begins will bot be able to leave the island until after the work is competed. To avoid this, we encourage all visitors to be off the island by 7:00AM on each of these days. A police officer will sweep the Great Island and Duck Harbor Beach Parking lots prior to the shut down to assist the public.
