Discussion:  The Wellfleet Board of Water Commissioners will meet on Monday February 27, 2023, at 7 PM to revise the Water Rates and Fees Structure that was approved on August 30, 2022.

The Water Rates and Fee Structure that was revised and approved by the Board of Water Commissioners on August 30, 2022, included a revised water rate tier structure and a recommendation to implement a “Unit Method” for calculating the number of dwelling units to be assessed for multi-unit properties, that is properties with two or more dwelling units sharing the same water meter.  The goal of the unit method was to ensure equitable costs for single dwelling unit properties and those in a multi-unit building or development.

After the approval of the proposed “unit method” the Board of Water Commissioners learned that the Town’s existing billing company for water services, does not currently have the available to implement such a strategy. As such implementation of the new methodology could not be completed at this time.

Next Steps

The proposed implementation of a “Unit Method” will be deferred until such time that either a suitable unit methodology can be identified and implemented, or an alternate methodology is identified. 

The revised water rate tiers and other fees that were approved on August 30, 2022, will remain in effect.
