Meeting Minutes for Tuesday, December 5, 2017
Wellfleet Library Conference Room, 11 am

Others Present: Kari Parcell (MassDEP/Barnstable County), Michael Cicale (Transfer Station
Foreman), Elspeth Hay (Commercial Organics Collection status)

Meeting called to order at 11:00 am.
MINUTES
1. Compost With Me tour report from Michael, Lydia, Christine. Discussed issues involved with
open compost piles.
First step for Wellfleet - residential organics dropped off and stored in covered containers
for periodic pickup by vendor.
2. Elspeth Hay provided an update on commercial organics collection program for local
restaurants and markets. Potential site has been identified.
3. Polystrene Reduction Bylaw takes effect June 1st. Health Dept will be sending out a letter to
businesses, and will include Lonni’s April 2017 Smart Green Renewable Food-Ware
Resources brochure with updates.
4. Jaya surprised us with amusing pro-recycling totes she found in New York, thank you Jaya!
5. Next Boomerang Bags sewing bee to be held Friday January 26th. It will be geared towards
helping students make their own bags. Volunteers are needed.
6. Our first Fixit Clinic is scheduled for Saturday January 27th. It is sponsored by RC, Wellfleet
Library, and Boomerang Bags Cape Cod (Erica Gorn). We discussed potential coaches:
Leon Shreves - electronics, appliances; Charles Thibodeau - mechanical, electrical; Erica
Gorn – clothing, sewing; Erica has a sewing machine repair contact. Jaya offered to
provide snacks. Kari Parcell mentioned that Fixit Clinic could earn RDP points. Gabrielle
can create flyers for Boomerang Bags and Fixit Clinic.
7. Publications: Winter Recycling Guides and bookmarks were available for attendees to
distribute around town (Mike took some for Transfer Station). Lydia created a Holiday 2017
Recycling Center Guide to post on the town website.
8. Chamber of Commerce Guide ad: Gabrielle and Lydia worked together on ½ page and full
page ad to send in. Lydia paid for RC membership in the Chamber at non-profit rate ($125).
9. Water fountain/bottle filling stations: The Water Commissioner’s meeting to discuss
proposed design is December 19th, 6 pm, 2nd floor conference room. RC should attend.
10. Public Space Recycling: DPW has indicated it is planned for summer, unknown if it is out
for bid.
