Recreation Committee Members Present: Kerry Cox, Christine Bezio, Ruth Marriott, Rhonda Fowler

Members absent:  Kevin Scalley

Others present: Becky Rosenberg

Call to Order:  7:03pm

Approval of Minutes:  May 10, 2018 minutes were disseminated and reviewed with corrections suggested.  CB made the motion to approve with corrections, KC seconded the motion, motion passed. 

Comprehensive Plan Comparison:  CPC results were disseminated, results report is attached. Long-term plans are for a Recreation office presence at Wellfleet Elementary School (WES), targeting fall 2019, and to establish the school as a community center.  Recreation department is working with Superintendent of schools Tom Conrad.

Summer Recreation Program wrap up:  BR reports that numbers are similar to 2017 with approximately $60,000 generated. BR reports that she has met with Suzanne Grout Thomas and that fee’s for the program should stay level, although BR noted that extra monies will be needed for counselor salaries in order to stay competitive.

British Soccer/Challenger Sports:  the program was not offered this year, British Soccer has had administrative changes; revisit offering the program in the future when more information is available.

Portable Toilets: Discussion about lack of portable toilets at Baker’s Field, public was required to use the recreation shed, this left two toilets for staff/campers and public.  Board of Health signed off on the use.  Monies appropriated at town vote are still in fund.  Discussion about purchasing or renting a large portable unit.  Need further discussion, to be continued at next meeting.

Referee Compensation:  Discussion was held about how referees have been compensated historically versus current recommendation by town accountant.  May not be able to host any home games moving forward.  Need further discussion, to be continued.

Final Tennis Court Bill: Former assistant town administrator used to handle contracts, Recreation director has been sent bills to pay, not enough money in the appropriation fund, and difference was paid by Recreation budget.  Need further discussion, to be continued at next meeting.

Budget: BR reports that NRHS is donating a van to the town for Recreation use.  BR also reports that she has met with Suzanne Grout Thomas to go over the budget for FY2020. Need further discussion, to be continued at next meeting.

New Business: BR disseminated an open gym flier for Showtime basketball at WES-see attached, and that Open Gym is starting.  BR reports that there is a testimonial book located at Baker’s Field for visitors.  RF reports that the CPC will meet regarding a grant for an awning replacement at Baker’s Field.

Committee Role Review:  Discussion was held regarding Recreation Committee members and their roles and attendance.

Next meeting will be at WES, 7:00 PM on 11/15/2018

CB made the motion to adjourn, KC seconded, motion approved.  Meeting adjourned at 8:04 pm
