Recreation Committee Members Present: Kerry Cox, Kevin Scalley & Christine Bezio

Members absent:  Rhonda Fowler & Ruth Marriot

Others present: Becky Rosenberg & Suzanne Grout Thomas

Call to Order:  7:08pm

Approval of Minutes:  March 1, 2018 minutes were disseminated and reviewed.  KC made the motion to approve, KS seconded the motion, motion passed.  No meeting was held in April, no quorum.

Establish committee chair / secretary:  KC nominated CB as chair of the recreation committee, KC seconded the motion, motion passed.  CB nominated KC as secretary of the recreation committee, KS seconded the motion, motion passed.  KC reports on 10/31/18 that she unable to act as secretary, CB will continue to do minutes.  CB agreed to assist transitioning of minutes to KC and will work together.  CB will record & type minutes of this meeting before handing over to KC.

Comprehensive Plan Comparison:  discussion about the roles of and the goals of comprehensive plan.  Previous plan was in 2008, KC will acquire copy, research and present new goal, including the survey monkey from the NRHS students disseminated.  CPC is a county requirement.  Discussion regarding community student ambassadors.

Billingsgate basketball tournament wrap up:  BR reports that 25 team participated, included 3x3 teams facilitated by CC Splash, and was successful.  The tournament grossed approximately $3,300.00. NRHS would like the tournament to be held approximately one week earlier next year due to HS varsity tournament play potential.

Finance Committee recommendation regarding Recreation Budget:  CB reviewed attached public minutes taken from the Finance committee site (meeting dates 12/27/2018 and 2/28/2018-see attached).  In the December minutes Kathy Granlund agreed to meet with Suzanne Grout Thomas regarding schedules and timeframes TA Hoort reported as having requested from the Recreation Department.  CB asked SGT if she had been contacted by anyone from the finance committee and SGT stated no.  CB asked BR & SGT if any information requested by TA Hoort was turned in a timely fashion, BR & SGT both stated yes.  CB asked those present to review finance committee meeting minutes dated 2/28/2018-no discussion regarding follow up by the finance committee and SGT is reported.  Recreation Budget was recommended 6-0 to be reduced.  CB pointed out that the only budget not approved during the 2/28/2018 meeting was Recreation.  CB requested the email addresses of the chair of the finance committee and the recreation liaison in order to open up communication between committees. BR reported that she would send them to CB.  Discussion regarding department head representation at future finance committee meetings was held.  BR agreed to be present.

Newsletter Update:  Doug & Allie Bezio, NRHS students, have agreed to help design and implement a quarterly recreation newsletter for town website posting and WES backpack mail.

Need to revisit at a future date.

Upcoming Events: SGT reports that there will be an Access Board facilities meeting at Cape Cod Community College on 5/24/2018 from 8:30-12:30.

BR reports that the NRMS students will be having a 3 on 3 basketball tournament at Mayo beach courts on 5/26/2018 (see flier attached), same day as WES Fest at Baker’s Field.  Six teams are signed up, HS students are helping to coordinate the event.  Tournament is free.

Next meeting will be held at WES, 6/14/2018 at 7:00 PM.  CB made the motion to adjourn, KC seconded the motion, KS agreed, motion approved.  Meeting adjourned at 7:57 PM.
