Board of Water Commissioners

Present: Jim Hood; Neil Gadwa; Catharie Nass; Curt Felix

Others present: Justina Carlson

Acting Chair, James Hood called the meeting to order at 6:05 P.M.

Board Reorganization and Recruitment:

Hood suggested that the opening has been posted. He asked the Board if the members have any suggestions or recommendations to please let the Board know. They discussed whether the Board there should be skill sets required for future Board members, and if there would be any Waste Water members interested in joining.

Hood stated the Board needs to make a formal vote for Chair. Gadwa moved for Hood to assume the position of Chair. Seconded by Nass, and the motion carried 3-0.

Felix entered the meeting at 6:15 P.M.

Recruitment will be an open issue to be discussed at a later date.

Monthly Meter Readings:

Chair Hood reported that he had been in touch with the Assistant Town Administrator about conducting meter readings: cost, billing, etc. The Board members will meet with ATA, Joe Powers at the June 19th  meeting. Gadwa will meet with Roy Maher from White Water and coordinate with South Shore Generator to conduct generator inspections and perform meter readings.

Discussion: Indian Neck and Pleasant Point:

Nass explained that the issue in both areas is salinity, and presented tests results from data collected between 2010-2013. Nass said that she was notified by Silent Spring that they will be conducting future tests for contaminants. The Board agreed that this should be an ongoing agenda item.

Minutes:

Moved to approve the minutes of 5-1-2018, by Hood. Seconded by Gadwa

And the motion carried, 4-0.

Correspondence:

Chair Hood reported that he spoke with Cape Cod Times columnist, Brent Harold, who inquired about nitrate levels in wells. Hood explained the process for testing, and that individual property owners may choose to have their water tested through Barnstable County, and those results are filed with the local Health Department.

The meeting was adjourned by consensus at 7:00 P.M.
