Wellfleet Taxation Aid Committee

Minutes of Meeting Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Town Hall

Called to order:  1:10 PM in upstairs Conference Room by Mr. Smith.

Attended: Manuel Smith, Chair / Dawn Rickman, Co-Chair / Susan Messina, Secretary Rosemary Moriarty, Town Treasurer Collector / Diane Galvin, Board of Assessors Chair

Minutes of Meeting:  Motion by Ms. Rickman to accept minutes of August 22 as amended, seconded by Ms. Moriarty, approved 5-0. Secretary will email copy for the town website.

Financial Report:  Ms. Moriarty reported that the current balances in the Taxation Aid Fund are $18,321.63 in the account, and $45,228.88 in a CD.  Brief discussion of potential Residential Tax Exemption.

Inserts:  Mr. Smith spoke at the Board of Selectmen meeting suggesting qualified homeowners apply for taxation aid funds.  The BOA approved the FY2019 insert, which will be included in the fall tax bill envelopes.

Publicity:  In November, Mr. Smith will submit a notice to the COA that will be included in their winter newsletters, and he will revise the postcard by removing the deadline date so the same card can be used every year.

Applications: Discussion regarding maximum reduction that MA General Law allows for property tax obligation. Also, discussion that tax exemptions be taken into consideration to determine the actual amount owed.

Next Meeting:  Wednesday September 5 at 1:00 PM, to review applications.
