Private Paved Road Policy Update

9/23/14

The Board of Selectman has voted to defer for one (1) year the enforcement of Maintenance Policy for Private Paved Roads that are eligible for snow plowing by the Town. The standards were compiled to address surface conditions, widths, clearances and roadside obstacles that are identified as obstructions of safe snow removal operations. These obstructions can also delay emergency response by Fire and Police Departments and cause considerable damage to Town vehicles.

Minimum clearances and maintenance standards can be found on the Town of Wellfleet’s website under Board of Selectman’s Policies, then select the Paved Private Road Maintenance Policy. The list of Paved Private Roads covered by this policy is incorporated by reference as Appendix A.

The Town will post a listing of roads with any deficiencies in Town Hall, on the Town website and in a local newspaper. Roads that do not meet the standards will be removed from the list of paved private roads eligible for snow plowing by the Town. The deficient roads will be removed from the eligibility list for the winter of 2015-2016.

Please note that after the 2015-2016 deadline, if the road is brought up to standard, after inspection by the Department of Public Works, Fire and Police Departments and road passes said inspection, it will be added back onto the eligible list for snow plowing.
