Attending: John Duane, Sylvia Smith, Laura Hewitt, Tom Slack, John Riehl

Guest: Tom Flynn

  • Meeting called to order at 6:00 pm

  • Series of votes:

  • Minutes of November 14 2016 approved as drafted, 5-0

  • Letter of support to MET for Mayo Creek hydrology approved, with corrections (5-0)

  • Letter of support for Upper Herring River culverts replacement approved (5-0)

  • Approved (5-0) recommendation to Board of Selectmen and Town Meeting support for OSC proposal to place Town owned parcels 8-270 & 41-189 under control of the Conservation Commission.

  • Bound Brook. The Echeverria report on ways to the ways to the water in Wellfleet mentions a Bound Brook landing at the Herring River. This landing no longer exists but must have been at the intersection of Bound Brook Island and Od County Roads. It was agreed that we could resurrect this landing as part of the Herring River restoration. A letter to that effect is to be sent to the FHR.

  • Long Pond. We had lengthy discussion about Long Pond:

    • Agreed that the landing needs remediation and offered support to the Beach Administrator.

    • There is foot traffic along the north shore of the pond, from the Town landing towards Kemp Point and thence to the south shore. This traffic creates a majo erosion risk. It is an enforcement issue. We agreed on some additional fact development and then to meet with the Beach Administrator.

    • We noted a “way” leading to a significant shoreline area on the south shore of the pond. Action is to follow-up with the Town Assessor on ownership & history of this “way”.

  • CPA Brochure

    • Audience is primarily local, full and part residents, not visitors.

    • Review of drafts for Introduction, Ponds and South Harbor. Support to use language developed by Town Conservation office to help balance useage rights with conservation needs.

    • Recognition that the brochure needs to address type of landing, geographical location and use (boating, swimming, etc). A color dot system is one idea.

    • Final versions to be drafted as follows:

      • Introduction and South Harbor – JWR

      • Ocean Beaches – TS

      • CC Bay Beaches – JD

      • Harbor North – SS

      • Ponds – LH

  • Next meeting tentatively for late March.
