  Minutes Marina Advisory Committee

May 23, 2018

Present:   Joseph Aberdale - Chair, Walter Baron, Alice Iacuessa, Frederick (Flip) Felix, Martha Wilson, David Stamatis (alternate), William Iacuessa (alternate)

Michael Flanagan, Harbormaster and Will Sullivan, Assistant Harbormaster

Meeting called to order at 7:04pm

 

  1. Announcements, Open Session, Public Comments

    Mayo Creek Restoration Project

  2. This committee met on May 22.There will be a pump test near the creek at Harborside Village to allay concerns about drinking water at the park due to the restoration project.

  3. A final report for the BOS will be written soon. The MAC was asked to write a letter of support for the restoration project before the start of July.Joseph will do this.

  4. The Natural Resources Advisory Board plan a study to determine the composition of the “black mayonnaise” in the harbor.Mark Borelli will do the analysis.

     

    Wellfleet Arts and Cultural District

    Alice reported that the first event sponsored by this organization was held in early spring.  It was a walk conducted by Jeff Tash and included the marina.

     

  5. Approval of Minutes for November 29, 2017 and April 25, 2018

    The minutes of the November 29th 2017 meeting were accepted as written.

    Walter moved; William seconded.  Unanimous approval.

    The minutes of the April 25th meeting were accepted as written.

    Flip moved; Walter seconded.  Unanimous approval.

     

  6. Harbormasters Report

  7. Michael and Walter appeared at the Board of Selectman’s meeting.The BOS accepted the recommendation made by the Marina Advisory Committee and supported by the Harbormaster not to place two electrical vehicle charging stations at the marina.

  8. The Harbormaster and his staff are getting ready for the 2018 season – there is a new landing at the D section; the E section needs a new landing; rewelding has been done; 40 pilings need replacing.

  9. The Harbor staff attended a mock oil spill exercise in Truro sponsored by the Department of Environmental Protection.

  10. The Ginny Lou is scheduled to be removed from the marina this week.Apparently there is a buyer for the boat.

  11. Certificates of insurance for boats are arriving at the office.

     

  12. Dredging Update

    Joseph said there was nothing new to report.  The New England Corps of Engineers stated that the dredging funds needed to be approved by May 1 in order to organize contracts to get the project started this year.

     

  13. New Business and Future Concerns

    There was a question about boaters putting moorings too close to grants and a question as to what is the regulation and who monitors this.  Does the Shellfish Department notify the Harbormaster when new grants are awarded so the Harbormaster knows where to approve moorings?

    There was a question concerning rebar at Old Wharf Point.  The Shellfish Department is responsible for this and has organized a clean-up by the DPW.
