8/15/17: Baker Field Tennis Courts & Playground Reconstruction

BAKER’S FIELD PLAYGROUND UPDATE

8/15/17: We would like to thank you for your patience and remind everyone that we are putting in a playground that will be in place for the next 20-25 years.  Care must be taken to make sure it is done properly, and all complications and options are carefully weighed in an informed manner.   Please also remember that although Baker’s Field is a beloved and highly attractive location for a playground, it is also in a flood plain and therefore is a very difficult area to support construction of this type.   However, the overwhelming consensus has been that is worth the effort!  It is anticipated that the playground will be in stalled in early October after some additonal permits are obtained due to proximety to wetlands.  As soon as there is more information about the exact timetable for installation we will let you know.  Please stay tuned.

UPDATE ON BAKER FIELD

5/18/17: Our beloved Baker’s Field Playground was torn down on May 17 in order to make room for a new and improved version which will be installed during the last two weeks of June.  In the meantime the public is welcome to use the playground at the Wellfleet Elementary School which is located at 95 Lawrence Road after school hours and on weekends and holidays.  The new playground at Baker’s Field will be completed no later than July 1 (and hopefully even earlier)  The skateboard park and fields will remain open during construction, please park in the Mayo Beach Parking Lot and follow the signs to the path around the tennis courts for access.

We appreciate the public’s patience and assure you the new playground and tennis and pickle ball courts will be worth the wait!!”

NOTIFICATION OF CONSTRUCTION AT BAKER’S FIELD

3/31/17: Two long awaited exciting construction projects will be taking place at the Baker’s Field Recreation Center at 70 Kendrick Avenue this spring!  Brand new tennis courts are being installed with an upgraded drainage system with upgraded state of the art surfacing.  The courts will include blended lines for pickle ball as well as lines for 10 and under and senior tennis.  They will contain removable tennis and pickle ball sleeves and posts.   The upgrade of the courts will enable the Recreation Department to offer exciting racket sport programming for all ages.

Another exciting project will be the installation of a brand-new playground.  Many of the features from the current much beloved playground will be kept, the high slides, rock wall and Zip line.  And many new appealing features will be added.

Construction on the tennis courts will begin the week of March 31, with construction fencing and site preparation being done.  From April 3- May 12 the parking lot in front of the tennis courts will be closed to the public while the pulverizing of the existing courts and main construction of the new courts is taking place.  Fence and post installation, top course paving and seeding and site renovation will take place in May.  Fence fabric installation the asphalt curing process and the tennis court surfacing and lines will take place in late May and Early June weather permitting.

We hope to have the courts open for use by the middle of June.

The playground construction will take place from mid-May through June with completion by July 1, 2017.

Access to the fields skateboard park and playground (in April and early May) will be maintained throughout the construction of the tennis courts.  Parking will be in the Mayo Beach Parking Lot.

Thank you for your patience this spring, it will definitely be worth the wait!!
